Over €2 Million in Grants Revitalise Vacant Homes In Kilkenny
Over €2.3 million in funding has been paid out so far in the first half of 2025 to support the transformation of empty properties in Kilkenny into homes.
Figures released by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage show that 41 grants have been issued in Kilkenny this year following the completion of refurbishment works. The total value of these grants stands at €2,377,454, reflecting a growing local commitment to tackling vacancy and bringing properties back into use.
Applications from Kilkenny continue to rise, with 65 submitted so far this year. Of these, 56 have been approved, and none have been rejected. The amount of grants is increasing, with 30 grants issued between April and June, compared to 11 in the first quarter, January to March.
The Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant offers up to €50,000 for eligible works, with an additional €20,000 available for derelict properties. The scheme supports homeowners and landlords in restoring vacant buildings for residential use.
Across Ireland, nearly 10,000 applications have been approved, and over €155 million has been paid out, bringing thousands of homes back into use.
