Kilkenny community groups receive funding for climate action projects

Kilkenny County Council and IPB Insurance has awarded €50,000 to 11 Kilkenny communities who will deliver a variety of local climate action projects.

 

As part of a major new national funding initiative for community groups undertaking environmental activities, The IPB Insurance & Local Authorities Community Fund, also known as the Local Environmental Action Fund (LEAF), is a partnership between IPB Insurance and all 31 local authorities, providing vital support for environmental enhancement, biodiversity and climate action projects in communities across the country.

Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council Joe Malone said the initiative shows the real power of partnership in action.

“It is great to see IPB Insurance and local authorities working together to deliver investment that reaches communities directly,” he said.

“Many of the projects supported will not only improve local amenities but also enhance climate resilience and create greener public spaces. I look forward to seeing these benefits take root across the country.”

The projects funded range from planting for wildlife, medicinal herb garden, polytunnel installation, raised beds, rainwater harvesting, sensory garden, hedgerow planting, and much more. The Climate Action Office of Kilkenny County Council will support the communities in the delivery of the projects and will share updates on the projects as they progress.
